NDP: Ontario loses nearly 17,000 jobs during Ford’s first month of summer vacation

QUEEN’S PARK — Ontario NDP Shadow Minister for Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade Catherine Fife (Waterloo); and Shadow Minister for Finance and Treasury Board Jessica Bell (University—Rosedale) are calling on Doug Ford to prioritize his jobs disaster over his summer vacation, after Ontario lost 16,700 jobs in June.

“While Doug Ford heads to the cottage, Ontarians are wondering how they’re going to pay their bills,” said Fife. “Our province’s workforce is shrinking at an alarming rate. This Premier and his Conservative government are simply not creating opportunities for people.

“Hard-working people are struggling to put food on the table for their families, or to keep a roof over their heads. The good jobs they need are disappearing.”

“Doug Ford is a jobs disaster,” said Bell. “It gets clearer with every passing month that the Conservatives have no plan to keep and create good jobs in our province. The situation is growing increasingly bleak for Ontario’s young people, with our youth labour force continuing to shrink. People are giving up hope.

“With cost of living at an all-time high, we can’t keep going like this. Ontario’s workers need more than a part-time Premier. Doug Ford needs to throw out his five-month vacation plans and start working to create and protect good jobs in Ontario.”
